Ayurveda

The ancient art of daily living!

Ayurveda is an ancient natural system of health.
Ayurveda is rooted in the ancient traditional culture of India.
Ayurveda is the art of balance and longevity.

Ayurveda can heal by correcting the diet and lifestyle, by administering herbs and natural compounds and by the use of massage and bodywork.

Ayurveda understands that mans essential nature is spirit. All suffering can be overcome through spiritual evolution. Mis-use of the intellect is a major factor in the disease process. Our intellect and mind drives our daily choices along with our past conditioning. By understanding the nature of our habbits and patterning we can slowly transform our lives for the better.

Ayurveda sees the digestive system as the key to our physical health. By having a strong agni (digestive fire) we can live a healthy life. Vitiation of the digestive fire is a factor in the disease process.

Ayurvedic Constitution :

Ayurveda understands the physical universe in terms of 5 elements and 3 doshas or energies.

The 5 elements are Ether (Space), Air, Fire, Water and Earth.

The 3 Doshas are Vata (Eather & Air), Pitta (Fire & Water), Kapha (Water & Earth)

The 3 doshas are in constant movement and are responsible for different phsiological and psychological functions.

We all have our own unique constitution or combination of doshas and elements.

Vata (wind) people tend to be thin, light, talkative, active, light sleepers, dry & thin skinned, they are often creative and can be anxious and fearful. They benefit by a regular routine, grounding and warming foods.

Pitta (fire) people tend to be of medium build, with a sharp intellect and (fiery)manner, they have a good appetite enjoy competition and are driven by challenge. Pitta people benefit by cooling soothing routines and cooling foods.

Kapha (water) people tend to be a heavy build, talk slowly, sleep deeply, they are more calm, generous and loving, they can become stagnated if not stimulated enough. Kapha people need stimulation and light foods to stay in balance.

The majority of people are predominant in one dosha and have a secondary dosha as well.

By understanding your constitution you can understand yourself and so use that self knowledge to your advantage when considering your lifestyle and diet.
